We are all feeling the pinch of rising costs and some may be requiring immediate assistance. We advise that you go to the following link for professional advice and help: https://helpforhouseholds.campaign.gov.uk
You can also take some simple steps within your home to lower your energy costs:
- Temperature - Simply lowering the temperature of your boiler, radiators and washing machine can dramatically reduce your annual energy costs.
- Drafts - If you notice a draft in your property it means that you are losing valuable heat. This can be easily remedied with thick curtains, draft excluders and shutting inner doors to keep in the heat.
- Turn it off - Any electrical item that is not in use, it should not be left on standby and should be turned off at the mains. Turning off appliances that are not in use will save you much needed money. The Energy Savings Trust advises that you could save £65 a year simply by turning appliances off.
- Close it - Close doors in rooms that you are not using. Also, closing your blinds and curtains will assist with keeping in the heat.
- Track it - If you do have a Smart Meter, it is in your best interest to monitor it. The smart meter will show you the cost of your current activity, which will then assist you with calculating your next bill and when it is best to use your energy.
- Wrap up warm - In the winter it is best advised to be dressed warmly in and out of doors. If you are dressed warmly, you will not require the heating temperature set as high, nor on for as long.
- Research - There are many useful sites providing information, assitance and advice with energy costs.
